Salam from Morocco!

Well, we have just completed another 14-day extravaganza of Morocco and thought you might enjoy a few photos!

Highlights of the trip were riding camels across the orange dunes of the Sahara whilst the sun set in the distance and then sleeping under an African sky, hiking up into the Atlas mountains to stay in the basic home of a Berber family and see how they live, experiencing the old medinas of Fez and Marrakech, meeting lots of friendly locals including Nezha who is a Moroccan 5W member (5W = Women Welcome Women Worldwide, an international hosting network) who lives in Fez and joined us for dinner one night. It was great to meet Nezha, who is an English teacher at the American school in Fez, and to learn more about Moroccan life from her. Read more

Lyn Baker the founder of Tiger Travel spent many years travelling extensively throughout India as a professional photographer  – she has an eye for the country, for its people and its culture.

Walking Barcelona

Through a comment on this blog, I have just been introduced to another great women’s tour company called Women on Tour.

This UK based company is for women and run by women – the have some great trips to Barcelona, Istanbul – meditation workshops, creative writing and drawing, walking in Spain and more. They are also looking always for new travel guides – perhaps that is you?

Our all-female company was set up to offer you the possibility of exploring new avenues in friendly and safe company. It is our experience that when choosing to travel alone – because of incompatible diaries with our friends or the need of independent travel or the simple freedom of not having to fall in with other people’s preferences – we’ve felt at times pulled between the need for adventure and exploration and the need for security and companionship.

As women travelling alone, we found that the prospect of having to wine and dine in the hotel every night of our stay or of feeling at times uncomfortable in unfamiliar circumstances could eventually dampen our plans.

It was these observations that first inspired us to facilitate a safe and relaxed environment for women to enjoy new experiences, to explore, whether it is outwards or inwards, whether they are travelling alone or accompanied.

Today, Women On Tour is an on-going project that follows a simple premise: to provide the opportunity of bringing together women from a wide spectrum to exchange knowledge and expand their horizons.

The first 2 weeks was spent with a Venus Adventures group in the north of Ethiopia, visiting historic castles, rock-hewn churches, old island monasteries, driving through a patchwork quilt of grain fields, drinking the best coffee in the world and eating delicious Ethiopian food (in fact after the first week of the trip we were wondering how we were going to explain putting on weight in Ethiopia!) Adventures in Good Company

Marian Marbury started this women’s travel company in 1999 – and they are still going strong. i have known of them for some years, so am excited that they have just joined the Women Travel the World website. Much of their philosophy resonates with me, especially the bit about “We love eating good food and laughing lots!”

I am two days into my own four month travel adventure, and am so glad to be looking forward to travelling with other women on tours such as these – sharing the stories and the journey and the good food with kindred spirits and other locals we meet along the way.
