The Pisans celebrate their patron saint, Saint Ranieri, with more than 70,000 candles which light up the palazzi, bridges, and towers along the Arno. Antique illuminations are placed on the Leaning Tower and along the crenellations of the city walls around Piazza dei Miracoli. The reflections of the candles in the Arno River is enhanced by floating candles which are lit on its surface.

When I made contact with Rosanna about Women Travel the World, she was very interested and when I said we were coming Italy, she said “You must come and stay in Lucca – the most beautiful town in Tuscany”. Of course – how could we refuse?
Lucca is just 60 kilometres from Florence, still in Tuscany, but as a small walled city, it is is another world.
