A visit to Pooh Country and the Hundred Acre Wood

On our way home from Brighton, my friend Catherine detoured us through Hartfield and the Ashdown Forest in Sussex which is where AA Milne wrote his memorable children’s stories. We stopped at Pooh Corner in the village to buy a small furry creature and a map of the Hundred Acre Wood.
We decided on a walk to the very same bridge that inspired the game of Pooh Sticks, and of course a game of Pooh Sticks. I won, well actually it was a draw because I cheated – but it was a fun walk, though a little muddy at this time of year. Well worth a visit. More about The Hundred Acre Wood

Also meant to say, being a Sussex lass, I know the Ashdown forest very well too. Born in Brighton, brought up in Lewes, the county town. Go there if you can, visit the castle – fab!

Hi Roseberry – didn’t realise you’d been to Brighton, town of my birth – Mel was born there too – in the same hospital as me just up from the railway station. Brighton went through a long period of the doldrums in the nineties but happily has had a rebirth in the last few years. Hope you got to explore ‘The Lanes’ and all the wonderful shops there. Cornwall pictures were great – reminded me of a walking holiday at St. Ives and walking the Coastal Path. Oh dear.. you’ll think I’ve been absolutely everywhere… man! And hate to tell you but December is definitely winter in England and not autumn..brrr.. have a great Christmas, if you’re lucky it might be white. Sue x
