Travelling alone

I am discovering traveling alone has its good and bad sides. Good because it is a time to tune in to your own rhythms and take stock of life – without the ‘noise’ of other people.
However occasionally I have caught myself wondering what on earth I am doing, so far from home and familiar surroundings. In New York one night I was sitting at a restaurant feeling decidedly sick – I suspect a bit of heat stroke, but I wondered if I could even make it the few blocks home. At moments like that you wonder what would happen if you collapsed – who would help, what would happen.
The other thing I realise is that I love being a part of a community where I know people and am known. I thrive on that – relentlessly communal one of my friends calls me. So that is why I live in New Zealand, not the USA and Waipu, not New York.
So learnings made, its back to the zen of traveling alone and where it can take you… London here I come

Thanks for aptly describing something I couldn’t put into words…being eternally communal.
I, too, miss that as a solo traveler, even in my homeland where I know someone in every port practically. I felt more connected with people living in small villages in small states in Australia than I do in New York, naturally, except for the North Country which I think is like your North Island.

Your not alone you’ve got everyone back here thinking about you and wondering what you are up too!
