Geotourism – changemakers in tourism

Geotourism is about celebrating places and changing lives – “It invites us to join the global search for innovations in tourism that sustain, enhance and preserve local culture and place”
This builds on growing trends such as eco-tourism and sustainability – which are no longer seen as ‘fringe’, but increasingly as the core of future tourism planning. This is something I am very committed to – as part of the Northland Sustainable Tourism Charter.
The new NZ Tourism Strategy also has a strong focus on sustainability. I continue to be amazed and excited at the way sustainability and related issues have come in from the fringes to be part of our core business and strategy.
In New Zealand a new network is growing encouraging and connecting eco travel businesses – the Organic Explorer A Green Travel Guide to NZ
